"Strop pop palpitation... a sub 3-minute rush of Pretty Girls Make Graves style post hardcore sweetness" - NME
Kids Love Lies formed after 4 strangers were drawn together by their shared love and passion for music. After endless searching, they found the missing link in pop pixie Ellen Murphy.
They have built up a reputation for being one of the most exciting live bands of the moment; their passionate live shows bursting with energy and evident chemistry between band members as they jump about the stage.
They released their debut 7" single in 2009 on Cherryade Records, receiving great support from Radio One DJs such as Steve Lamacq, Nick Grimshaw, Zane Lowe and Huw Stevens and receiving rave reviews in the NME, with the
KLL were invited to play a spot on the coveted BBC Introducing stage at Radio One's Big Weekend as well as playing the Artrocker stage at The Great Escape Festival & the Camden Crawl.
The band have also previously shared stages with the likes of The Holloways, Theoretical Girl, Fight Like Apes to name just a few.
They also recorded their first live session at BBC's Maida Vale studios for Huw Steven's show, 'In New Music We Trust' on Radio One.
The band recently released their 2nd single 'Under the Bed' in October; poignant, quirky and charming in equal measure - a whirlwind of a song full of attitude that demands your attention.
Brimming with a cacophony of relentless, frenetic guitars, an energetic bass line and crashing percussion, all topped off by Ellen Murphy’s Karen O-esque vocals; the result is an explosion of energy which builds towards the song's climax, which received airplay on Radio One, XFM.
The track was also awarded Single of the Month by acclaimed music magazine Artrocker.
The future is very exciting for Kids Love Lies with plans for their debut EP to be released in early 2010; they will be spending the next few months writing and recording new material as they constantly grow and develop as a band.
Here's some nice words other people have written about Kids Love Lies:
"This strop pop palpitation is a sub three minute rush of Pretty Girls Make Graves style post hardcore sweetness. Firecracker singer Ellen Murphy sounds pretty much like Kate Nash would if she dropped the prim and proper act and thrashed herself into a full on Kathleen Hanna hissy fit" - NME
"Entirely pleasant and sprightly new wave hoo ha with a lady vocalist who just can't sit still" - Guardian Review
"Delivering fine power pop that's packed full of clever lyrics and hooks" - Times Online

"I like these lads! Reminding me of the Undertones. A spunky bunch!" - Franz Stahl (Scream & Foo Fighters)
Hardly Heroes are an Indie based pop/rock band that prides themselves on their fresh and vibrant sound.
They are made up of Luke Usher on lead vocals and bass, Sam Malone on lead guitar, Will Cahill on rhythm guitar and Kurtis Maiden on drums.
The band first formed in the summer of 2006 when they entered Power fm`s rock school competition where the prize was an opening slot for the Zutons at Southampton Guildhall. The competition was closely contested and out of 300 entrants Hardly Heroes finished a credible 2nd.
The judges were so impressed that they decided to give the band a support slot with channel 4`s own rock school winner "L’il Chris" which they pulled off with aplomb in front of 8,000 people.
In the spring of 2007 the band entered the "live and unsigned" competition and worked their way through the heats to play the final at Portsmouth Guildhall where they emerged as best band in the competition which started with over 10,000 entrants.
Hardly Heroes reputation was now cemented as a very popular up and coming band in the local area and lots of media attention followed including several newspaper articles and radio interviews.
The band has gained lots of experience in playing in front of large crowds in quality venues for a number of signed acts including the "Attack! Attack!, The Mission District, Young Knives, Jubilee, Hot Club du Paris, The Hot Melts and hard rocking teen punk band Outl4w.
Last year the band were invited to London to record their first EP with "One Night Only`s" producer and have since been invited back to record again.
Here's some nice words other people have written about Hardly Heroes:
"I like these lads! Thin sounding as it may be, you give it some thick wumf! by giving the guitars a biting edge, with a dry attack on the main vocal leaving the air to the backing ones. I like the energy in their style and live performance pictures. I like the burgeoning image - Luke, almost looking like a very young Paul Weller, and the rest reminding me a little of the Undertones. A spunky bunch!" - Franz Stahl (Scream, Wool and Foo Fighters)
"You guys are awesome." - Michael 'Mickey Shoes' Shuman (Queen of the Stone Age, Jubilee)
"Hardly Heroes are up next, one of the south coasts most popular young bands these indie-rock upstarts thrash their guitars and pound the drums but lead singer Luke Usher's vocals eschew the screaming and gurning antics that make indie-rock a dirty word, instead adopting a baritone that at times hints at an almost Jim Morrison-esque croon. Sam Malone and Will Cahill's duelling guitars adding layers of sound that veer from stadium rock to indie jangle and from punk snarls to, at one point, a reggae riff that sounds a bit like The Police. These guys are good though, assured performers and astute enough to pick up on what works and what doesn't." - Artrocker

One of the most popular live tribute bands in the area but the question is... would you let your daughter go?!
The Bogs formed a while back with one aim in mind: 'to inject a little fun and tongue-in-cheek humour into the all too serious world of tribute bands'.
Realising that it is impossible to take one's self seriously whilst prancing about on stage in a wig and stripy trousers, the band's attitude revolves around high energy, no holds barred entertainment. (Not to mention shouting "Yeaaaaaaahhhhhhh, baaayyyyybeeeee!" at every opportunity).
Band members slip in and out of character at opportune moments and wigs have been known to fly across the room. Then, just when you think it's simply theatre, Keef's ice pick guitar strikes a nerve, the rhythm section plugs in and the music reaches up, grabs Mick by the ankle and pulls him under!
Despite all the larking about the band has earned a reputation as one of the most authentic sounding tribute acts around, tackling the more challenging songs with great enthusiasm.
The Bog Rolling Stones are now one of the most popular, sought after live bands in the area. Of course, it's only Rock 'n' Roll... but a lot of people seem to like it, like it, yes they do!!! Mick Slacker & Co's tongue in cheek tribute act just gets better and better.
Satisfaction's always guaranteed when these long haired boys play your town! Their tongue in cheek humour, wigs, stripy trousers and boundless energy make them an act not to be missed.
The question is... would you let your daughter go???

''Utterly compelling'' - NME... ''Indisputable genius, sublime stuff'' - The Fly... "A bewitching talent" - Uncut
Sometimes a musician comes along and seems to do everything effortlessly, gaining plaudits left right and centre whilst knocking out albums of utterly amazing music without seeming to break a sweat.
It doesn't happen often, but it did with Lupen Crook.
When he released "Accidents Occur Whilst Sleeping" in 2006 he was hailed as a hugely exciting emerging talent and since then he has assembled a motley band of helpers he calls the Murderbirds, toured time and again, each night mesmerising audiences with his blend of acoustic subtlety and a sense of the macabre that would make Nick Cave proud.
Emerging from the Medway mud, Lupen Crook possesses the single minded urge to play music his own way that is a hallmark of fellow Medway man Billy Childish, indeed even when he tries to write a more audience friendly set of songs he still stands alone.
Reviews of Iscariot The Ladder, released back at the beginning of this year, back this up. Artrocker were moved to say "Crook has managed to avoid the pitfalls of many of his fellow artists, and created a more accessible album without devaluing his music"
Mixing bewitching jazzy rhythms with pounding drums and a smattering of fat guitar riffs and layering on poetically haunting lyrics, Lupen Crook is a mesmerising presence who has to be seen to be believed.

Here's some nice words written by other people about Lupen Crook:
"Lupen Crook stands alone as one of the few artists around who seriously defies categorisation" - The Fly
"A bewitching talent" - Uncut
"Original and highly concentrated stuff" - Mojo
''To say the atmosphere of a gig rests on the proverbial knife's edge is a rare statement indeed. For Lupen Crook and his band of 'birds however, it illustrates just how captivating their agitated pop is and the stop start animation of the band can be visually seen to make its onlookers flinch with expectation'' - Artrocker

Field Recordings (Radiohead) latest protege whose home demos found their way to Rollo from Faithless
Songs about breaking up, songs about getting together, songs about life, songs about death - Kyla La Grange writes songs about the things that really matter.
She was born in Essex to a Zimbabwean father and a South African mother, but grew up in Watford. She began playing music when she was five years-old, started her first band at thirteen, and resolved to do this for the rest of her life while studying philosophy at Cambridge University - "I realised I loved writing and performing more than anything."
After graduating, Kyla's home demos found their way to Rollo from Faithless who introduced her to producer Marky Bates. The three of them share production duties on Kyla's debut album Ghosts, which is nearing completion.

Caimbo now have a new name, new songs and a new direction attracting no little attention in the process...
In their early years, the band might have just consisted of rolling around as Cambridge four-piece Caimbo, but now they have a new name, new songs and a new direction.
Best mates at school, Leo, Piers, Dave and Ali fell into their roustabout, let's-take-on-the world little gang at fourteen. For seven years they've written great tunes, thrown them out, written better ones, argued like brothers and rocked each gig like it was Knebworth.
Steeped in song writing influences that include Muse, Pendulum, Calvin Harris, Bloc Party, Jamiroquai, Coldplay... the band have spent the last two years working with producers Ben Mason (The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight) and Simon Efemy (Pantera, The Wildhearts), honing their brand of spanking Dance Rock to perfection. And attracting no little attention in the process...
The band name might be new, but as front man Leo says, "It's not just about what we've done in the past, it’s about what we are going to do that matters..."

"Staggering maturity... an abundance of natural talent. Irresistible... superior acoustic music" - Daily Telegraph
At the age of twenty-one, singer-songwriter Jenna already has a wealth of recording and touring experience behind her.
Seven years ago she co-wrote the haunting 'Seven Days' - one of the highlights of 'Show of Hands' 'Country Life' CD.
Then with Steve Knightley and Mercury prize nominee, Seth Lakeman, she recorded 'Western Approaches'. This led to a successful nationwide tour in 2004.
In 2007 she appeared at The Royal Albert Hall as a special guest for a sell-out Show of Hands concert.
In the same year, Jenna recorded her debut solo album 'Barefoot and Eager'. A 10 track album produced by Steve Knightley and recorded by Phil Beer. It was listed in the top ten acoustic albums of 2007 in the Financial Times.
She has toured this album on three nationwide tours supporting Steve Knightley and has another one coming up in 2010.
On this tour she will be releasing her new album 'Brother' which has been produced by Steve Knightley and Mark Tucker.
Jenna has supported a number of well-known musicians including Martyn Joseph, Seth Lakeman, Phil Beer, Martin Simpson and Boo Hewerdine etc, and has recently been in the same line-up as The Noisettes.
Jenna's original songs are very much inspired by the sea, surf and landscape of her native North Devon and accompanying herself on piano and guitar, she possesses an astonishingly mature voice and stage presence.
Here's some nice words other people have written about Jenna:

"Friends Electric put on a thrilling show" - Bethan Elfyn, Radio 1
Friends Electric is a band spawned not by a scene, but a burning desire to make people dance. You can hear it in the pop hooks at the heart of their songs and feel it in the slinky rhythms and euphoric beats that have been filling dancefloors in their native Wales for the past year.
Or you can forget trying to work out the formula that has already found fans in Frankmusik and Ellie Goulding, throw your arms in the air and sing along to the sensuous vocals.
Based in the former mining town of Neath - or about as far from the hip clubs of London as it's possible to get without crossing water - Friends Electric are a quartet in their early 20s who formed their first band aged fourteen.
Sneaking in to a Soulwax show in 2006 persuaded them to swap their guitars for synths, move together in to a terraced house and do jobs as diverse as delivering pizzas and engineering Abba Mania to fund the purchase of enough equipment to fill their front room.
Friends Electric's infectious electronic-pop persuaded Frankmusik to snap them up for support and saw both Ellie Goulding and Noisettes hire them to remix their most recent singles.
But it's their own songs that are set for success in 2010. From the soaring, soulful Wall of Arms to the warm, Beloved-like Give Me Chills, Friends Electric are on a mission to move feet, not follow trends and put personality back in to dance music.
Here's some nice words other people have written about Friends Electric:

Latest Polydor signing with healthy support from specialist radio and plaudits from press quarters
In its current incarnation, Chapel Club was born in the summer of 2008 in the shadow of St. Luke's Church, on London's Old Street. It was here, two or three times a week, that the five members of a then unknown band would gather after rehearsing nearby to drink and discuss a name for their group.
"Like everything else with us," says Michael (guitar, keys), "the name was unplanned and ill-defined in the beginning. We didn't start out with one and we'd go ages without bringing it up. But on the occasions when we did talk about it down in the churchyard, there was a lot of disagreement." Eventually, the answer came from the site of the discussions itself, and the embryonic band became Chapel Club.
The band's founder, Michael grew up in the depths of Essex before moving to the capital. He spent some time playing in other people's bands and often lent his abilities to friends' projects, but his real focus was always on doing something much more personal. He began collecting ideas and inspiration - anything from vintage natural history illustrations and stop-motion film shorts to guitar lines, drum samples and snatches of melody - with a vague notion that, out of this ephemera, a band might one day be born.
When Michael met Liam (bass) and Liam introduced Alex (guitar), his best friend since junior school days in Swindon, the core parts were in place. What the band needed now was a drummer and a frontman - then the machine could start to move. Leeds-born Rich (drums) and Londoner Lewis (vocals) provided the missing pieces. Each was recommended by mutual friends and fitted in instantly with the existing trio's tastes, temperaments and (importantly) savage sense of humour: in no time, the five were hanging out together, writing, rehearsing and trying to work out what form their strange new creation would take. For Lewis, who had never been in bands before and now found himself singing and songwriting for the first time, it was an intimidating experience.
In the end, it took very little time for the defining elements of Chapel Club's signature sound to take shape: heavy drama from the guitars, a rhythm section as tight as a hanged man's gullet, melodic intricacies aplenty and a vocal that crooned and swooned its way through stories of lust, love and loss like a modern-day Jacques Brel. It soon became apparent to all involved - as well as the growing legion of admirers the band picked up from early gigs and their first MySpace page - that Chapel Club were different from other bands. First, there was the music: they didn’t quite fit any of the existing stereotypes.
"I dread that question, 'Who do you sound like?'" says Lewis. "Not because it's a bad question, it's natural enough for someone to ask that. I'd just love to have a quick and accurate answer. But I can't think of anyone we sound like, especially live. I end up reeling off influences from Deerhunter and New Order to the Bad Seeds, Scott Walker and Chet Baker - and leaving the person who asked more confused than they were to begin with."
The second thing that set the nascent Chapel Club apart was the words: Lewis drew on his love of wordsmiths like Ted Hughes, Mikhail Bulgakov, R.S. Thomas, Frank O'ara, Ernest Hemingway and Knut Hamsun to create lyrics that flitted from the vivid and vernacular (the lovers' argument of O Maybe I) or darkly poetic (the pained paean to desire that is Machine Music) to the acutely descriptive (After the Flood) and downright philosophical (Paper Thin).
The end result? Chapel Club aren't run of the mill. They have their own formula, one they arrived at by chance and which they want to remain something of a mystery, in case they jinx it. More than anything else though, they are a band best described not in relation to other bands or musical precedents but in relation to the events, experiences and sentiments at the heart of their songs: sex, love, grief, frustration, pride, power, jealousy, even (in The Shore) the desire for the comforts of religious faith in a mind that’s far too cynical ever to accept the possibility of God.
If the thought of negotiating the treacherous shoals between artistic credibility and popular adulation worries the band, it doesn't show: they seem to have no doubts about the course they're taking, possibly because they're playing it completely by ear. All they want is to make music worthy of the lives they - and their audiences - lead, and to get people enthused about that music via some amazing live shows.
Head down to one of Chapel Club's fortnightly London events and you'll most likely find yourself in an offbeat location - an 'acid Rasta' West Indian pub perhaps, or a disused gallery space - mingling with a fun-loving, forward-thinking crowd and watching a magical, moody, incredibly loud live show that will leave you by turns stunned, enraptured, anguished, awestruck and overwhelmed.'‘Intense' is the word on a lot of listeners’ lips, and after two years of ensuring their musical abilities match their ambitions, you won't hear Chapel Club complaining about that.

"Dancey & direct; very impressive stuff" - Artrocker... "Right now we're loving Busy Hands" - NME
Since they began playing live last year, Leicester's math rock/pop quintet Minnaars have already notched up shows all over the UK and in Europe.
Produced by Forward Russia's Tom Woodhead, their brand of incessantly catchy, dark-disco-electro-rock fuses pop orientated intricate poly-rhythms with floor shuddering dance beats and has garnered them attention from every aspect of the music industry.
The band is signed to Rimeout Records (Japan) and
Hip Hip Hip (France).
With pending releases in Japan and Europe, numerous UK Festival appearances last year (inc. Reading & Leeds and Summer Sundae), a European tour and praise being heaped upon them by Radio 1, Xfm, NME and even Gavin and Stacey star Mat Horne, it seems they really are the genuine ones to watch in the next twelve months.
Here's some nice words other people have written about Minnaars:
"...Dancey and direct; very impressive stuff" - Artrocker
"...The Hottest property to come out of Leicester since Kasabian" - Radio 1
"...Right now we're loving Busy Hands" - NME
"...What track would I play right now? - "Busy Hands" by Minnaars - XFM
"...Last year was all about White Lies. My tip for this year is Minnaars" - Mat Horne
"...What sets Minnaars apart is that they have the tunes and the bravery. Comparisons with Foals, due to a fixation with the bottom 12 frets, I suspect, are wide of the mark. The overly-focused sound of the Oxford indie-math band's debut Antidotes pales in contrast this. This EP focuses on innovative music which makes you dance, revere and ponder in equal measures..."- A Box of Words
"...I'm exhausted just listening..." - Jo Whiley, Radio 1
"As the local lads done good, Minnaars manage to create a flurry of excitement that for thirty minutes on Saturday afternoon turns Victoria Park into one sun-drenched dancefloor" - DIS - Summer Sundae 2009

"The most literate songwriter of her generation" - The Independent
In 2004 Polly Paulusma's self-made, home-recorded acoustic debut album 'Scissors In My Pocket' won her fans across the world and resulted in heart-stopping shows supporting Bob Dylan, Jamie Cullum, The Divine Comedy, Marianne Faithfull and Coldplay.
Influential DJs Terry Wogan, Michael Parkinson and Johnnie Walker all played her songs on their Radio 2 shows while Nic Harcourt carried them to audiences across the Atlantic.
Her electric follow-up 'Fingers & Thumbs' in 2006 was recorded live in Liverpool with Ken Nelson (Badly Drawn Boy, Gomez, Kings of Convenience, Coldplay) producing, and its difficult subject-matter showed her coming-of-age.
Now, three years on after pausing to have two children, she is re-emerging to play a handful of very select gigs while she pens her much-anticipated third album.
Here's some nice things other people have written about Polly:
"The most literate songwriter of her generation" - The Independent
"Exquisite and unrestrained" - Metro Spirit
"A husky voice raised on American folk with a buttery English inflection..." - Word Magazine
"As far as uncut is concerned, the finest young British female singer-songwriter to emerge over the last 12 months" - Uncut 2004
"Charming... in league with articulate folk-pop contemporaries such as Paula Cole and Shawn Colvin" - Rolling Stone USA
"A smart, poetic, darkly melancholic and slightly unhinged female singer-songwriter" - Philadelphia Inquirer
"The best thing I've heard from a songwriter out of the UK" - Nic Harcourt, The Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW

Ivor Novello Nominated (Patience of Angels) and in excess of 500 song writing credits worldwide
The life and career Boo now has first began to blossom with the group he formed in the mid-Eighties, The Bible.
Two of their finest songs, Graceland and Honey Be Good, came tantalisingly close to becoming huge hits. (A third, Glorybound, is one of the recordings about which Nick Hornby rhapsodises in his book 31 Songs).
Boo now wishes he could have enjoyed The Bible's time on the verge of success a little more. "I think I felt under a lot of pressure," he reflects. "There were a lot of people telling me what I should do and I felt very bullied." And some things take years to seem funny.
The Bible first decided to disband after being flown over to Germany to perform Honey Be Good on, they belatedly discovered, a talent show. A man who wore a bowtie with lights on that spun round, and who went by the name of Mr Gadget, won with 140,000 votes. The Bible were told that they had received twelve votes. "We all took it so personally that we split up," says Boo.
The first Boo Hewerdine solo album, Ignorance, was released in 1992, followed by Baptist Hospital in 1996 and Thanksgiving in 1998, both made with Nick Drake producer ohn Wood, and by Anon in 2002.
In between, in 1994, The Bible briefly reformed though the album they then recorded wouldn't appear until released as Dodo at the end of the decade.
That same year five songs Boo had written or co-written appeared album, Eddi Reader, triggering a parallel career with her that continues to this day. (In 2003 he produced Eddi Reader's acclaimed Sings The Songs Of Robert Burns.)
Over the past decade Boo has not only regularly played and written together with Reader, but has also enjoyed composing songs for her under her instructions: "Writing for Eddi, I'm forced to write from a woman's point of view a lot of the time. She sets me homework. One song she asked me to write, which I nearly did a version of on Harmonograph, is called Forgive The Boy - she said, "I'm a single mother and I've got two teenage sons and I want you to write a song about how women should sometimes forgive the way that men behave'. I like doing that."
For many years Boo had been writing with and for other artists - in 1989 he released a whole album, Evidence, in collaboration with the American country singer Darden Smith - but towards the end of the Nineties he also began to write songs for and with pop artists, something he considers a complete separate endeavour. "I don't think of myself in that world at all," he explains. "It's just I quite enjoy the Brill Building aspect. I enjoy it because it's not what I do."
Amongst the many artists he has written for in this way are Natalie Imbruglia, Mel C and Alex Parks.
