Acoustix ft Mark Nelson Trio
Get an acoustic fix of original material from some of the area’s developing artists and accomplished performers.
Mark Nelson is a new and interesting talent – an acoustic guitarist & singer-songwriter with a difference in that he does it all with one arm!
He has been writing acoustic tunes for years but only last year took the brave step of going solo live and the new acoustic songs he has been composing & performing show a more personal & meaningful side to his songwriting from the rock & pop material he wrote for Supersmiler.
Emma Lawrence, has been writing music since she was 15 and is fast establishing herself as a popular singer/songwriter producing music that displays a maturity well beyond her years.
She refers to her music as an acoustic fusion of folk and R&B which has its own distinct style and is very much of the time. National runner up in the recent Open Mic UK Original Songwriting Competition, her first single went straight into the Top 40 iTunes Singer/songwriter charts at 34.
Influenced by artist such as Ed Sheeran, Ben Howard, and Emilie Sande, her songs reflect the challenges of life faced by young people today and appeals to audiences of all ages.
A recent review stated: “Her guitar playing was simple and effective and a good base for her powerful, warm and folky voice to sit on. Her vibrato was quick and easily punctured the audience ambiance. An exciting performer.”
She has been performing around the South for the past 2 years at various music venues and festivals including Basingstoke Live!, Warminster Punchbowl Festival, Newbury Real Ale Festival and Hampshire Octoberfest.
She brought out her debut 8 track EP last spring and is currently working on her new EP which is due out this summer. She is signed to Major Music in London, the country’s leading artist development company who have produced singers such as Hattie Keane and Pixie Lott.
Ollie West is a 17 year old pianist/singer/songwriter based in Headley, Hampshire.
Inspired by the work of Billy Joel, Bruce Hornsby and Ray Charles, he began songwriting in early 2012 and has since gone on to playing gigs both small and large, from open mic nights to Kaya Festival, the Welsh world music festival.
His work has been recognised by established musicians such as drummer Liberty DeVitto, and it has been said of him that “if he keeps going with his writing we could well be seeing the next Stephen Sondheim unfolding before our eyes.”
He is now in the process of recording and producing an EP, with a release date to be confirmed.
